Four Englewood Cliffs friends fight for breast cancer awareness

The four friends from Englewood Cliffs raised $500 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure by selling homemade bracelets during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

"When we donate money, we could be saving a life," said Ava.

"We're helping people who have breast cancer," said Daniela.

In the beginning of October, the four girls, like the rest of their peers, wore pink to school for Breast Cancer Awareness Day.

But wearing pink was not enough for them: They wanted to do something else to make a difference and spread awareness about breast cancer. That night, as the girls did their homework, they decided they would make bracelets out of different colored and patterned duct tape, sell the bracelets and donate the money to a breast cancer foundation.

"We were up the whole night making bracelets," said Giulia.

For three of the girls, the cause is personal, as Daniela and Giulia's great grandmother had breast cancer and Ava's grandmother is a breast cancer survivor.
