News Releases CBC Records/Les disques SRC receives five JUNO nominations

( Toronto, Februay 7, 2007 ) - Nominations for this year's JUNO Awards, which recognize excellence and achievement in Canadian music, were announced today, and CBC Records/Les disques SRC has received five nominations, which are in the classical and world music categories.

Since 1984, CBC Records/Les disques SRC, CBC/Radio-Canada's record label, has won 25 JUNO Awards. It is hoped this year's event, held in Saskatoon, April 1, 2007 and hosted by internationally renowned pop star Nelly Furtado, will continue this remarkable history in the recording of some of Canada's finest musicians.

Ottawa – February 11, 2008 – Yesterday in Los Angeles, a piece of CBC/Radio-Canada history was written as CBC Records/Les disques SRC received its first-ever Grammy Award at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards Celebration.

The winning album – BARBER, KORNGOLD, WALTON (Violin Concertos) – features the extraordinary violinist James Ehnes and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Bramwell Tovey. The award came in the category of Best Instrumental Soloist Performance with Orchestra, and conductor Bramwell Tovey was in attendance at the Grammys to personally accept it on behalf of James, the Orchestra and CBC/Radio-Canada.

“I'm tremendously excited and honoured to have won this Grammy,” exclaims James Ehnes. “I am particularly proud that a Canadian recording has made such an impact on the global classical music scene. Making this recording was an amazing experience, and I cannot give enough thanks to Bramwell Tovey, the production team, the entire Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and CBC Records/Les disques SRC for all they did to make this possible.”
