Katz-Hyman took a year off before college to go on a study abroad program called the Young Judaea Year Course in Israel. Katz-Hyman said she chose this program because she has been going to Young Judaea camps her whole life. "It was a natural progression and although I was excited to go to college, I really wanted to take a year off to see what I really wanted to do, and grow up a little bit," she said.
Katz-Hyman originally began as a journalism major but her love for animals and other factors convinced her to double with environmental science. She said her favorite class at the moment is photojournalism. "I love photography and capturing candid emotion and random pictures of puppies," she said.
Academics aside, Katz-Hyman is co-president of the Terrapin Trail Club, on the Women's Ultimate Frisbee Team, a DJ for WMUC Radio and a staff writer for the Cow Nipple. She's been with the Terrapin Trail Club since the middle of her freshman year. Katz-Hyman loves the people and considers them her very close friends.
