Most of that magic embodies the spirit of the holiday. Sure, we all like seeing presents under the tree Christmas morning, but around the holiday, I tend to forget about adding to my own wish list and instead look forward to wrapping presents for others and seeing the smile on their face upon giving them the gift.

To some, however, giving means digging deep into their pockets.

But here’s the catch. The best presents can often come at a small price.

My friends and I had our annual gift exchange last week. With a paycheck of minimum wage for most of us (and some without a paycheck at all), we decided on homemade gifts.

Since this is our last Christmas as high school students, the idea was perfect. We’d have something full of memories to take with us to college next year without breaking the bank.

The secret Santa turned out to be a success, and we dubbed it as a new tradition for years to follow. However, I knew the homemade-gift route wouldn’t work for all of the people on my list.
