Volunteer Fairfax is hosting a Give Together: Family Volunteer Day on Monday, Jan. 16 and one of the events will be taking place right in Herndon.

The Fairfax 4-H, Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia and Maddie’s Blankets will be volunteering at the Herndon Senior Center for the MLK Jr. Day of Service.

The service day was created to introduce young children to volunteering and giving back to the community. Projects are designed for children from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade and are geared toward families.

At the Herndon Senior Center volunteers will make beaded bracelets for children in the hospital, fleece tie blankets to donate to children and animals in need, and braided dog chew toys for animal rescue groups.

At the end of the day a reflection station will be available for families to think about the projects they worked on and reflect on the impact their service will have. Other volunteer opportunities will be located at Gum Springs Community Center and George Mason University.

I'm not sure if it's a defect in the product or my dog, who is nicknamed "Shredder".
