Man beaten, robbed of gold necklace
— Three thugs attacked a man outside an Oak Park store Thursday, breaking his leg, so they could steal his gold necklace, San Diego police said.
Officers later arrested a man found inside a Mercedes Benz believed used as a getaway car, Officer David Stafford said.
The assault occurred about 3:20 p.m. outside an Arco gas station store on Euclid Avenue. Three black men thought to be in their 20s walked up to the 25-year-old victim and demanded his necklace, Stafford said.
When the victim refused to hand it over, they kicked and beat him and took the chain, which had pendants of a cross and a four-leaf clover. They may have left in an older gray Mercedes that police found on westbound state Route 94 near Euclid Avenue about 4 p.m., Stafford said. One man was arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault.
The victim went to a hospital with a broken leg.
One robber was described as 6 feet 3 inches tall, heavy set, with a short afro hair style, a gray shirt and a baseball cap. A second man was 5 feet 11 inches tall and thin.
